Node.js 24 Release Plan

Hey folks,

According to our schedule, we must release Node.js 24 on April 22. The cut-off date is March 22. @juanarbol volunteered to prepare and promote this release with me (I'll be traveling April 21, so Juan will likely promote it)

• Create a release branch (v24.x-staging, v24.x) ----- @RafaelGSS
• Create v24.x labels ----- @juanarbol
• Create a release proposal ---- @RafaelGSS 2025-04-23, Version 24.0.0 (Current) node#57609
• Generate release candidates
  • RC.1 - 2025-04-23, Version 24.0.0 (Current) node#57609 (comment)
  • RC.2 - 2025-04-23, Version 24.0.0 (Current) node#57609 (comment)
• Create CHANGELOG for v24 (review it with @nodejs/tsc) - @RafaelGSS
• Create a Node.js blog post for v24 (if we have meaningful changes)
• Create expected assets for v24 - @RafaelGSS build: add expected assets for v24 build#4057

There was some discussion of figuring out an improved way to work with the Foundation in terms of blog posts for major releases. Just wondering if there has been any discussion/planning on this front?

@mhdawson Once the release proposal is ready, I plan to create a blog post based on CHANGELOG and open it a few weeks in advance on nodejs.org (or even nodejs.org-private). What do you think?

@mhdawson having it open a few weeks in advance with all collaborators having time to review/help will be good.

Do you know if the Foundation staff plan on putting out an additional blog post as well. If so asking that it be available for comment in advance (at least to the TSC) would be good as well.

Is there any new target date for the v24.0.0 release or is it undefined at the moment?

It would be good to edit the target release date in nodejs/node#57609 to be clear about this. , as it sounds like a release today is not possible. Edit: there was no release on Apr 23, 2025.

Based on the TSC meeting it sounds like they're going to wait until next week to make a decision. They're working through several V8 issues and one of their key V8 people is out this week, so it makes sense to wait.

You may want to replace the date in https://github.com/nodejs/Release/blob/main/README.md#release-schedule which currently shows 2025-04-22

If there is no new date, then perhaps just TBD or similar?
